Hillary Convention - NYT 07/25/16

I was reading an article in The New York Times about the problems that Hillary would have in the 2016 Presidential campaign.

I am surprised that in the first surveys Trump is in front of her. I wouldn't expect this, but it's real and there is the possibility to become even more true in the future.

Here, there are some of the "tips" that David Leonhardt, NYT reporter, listed in his article:

* They (The party and Hillary?) need to make voters more excited about Hillary Clinton as a person and a leader.
*  Politics has always involved emotion. (As we can see in Trump's case).
*  Voters want to like their president.
*  She has been in the national political spotlight for too long, and too many people view her negatively. (What exactly she did? I don't know).
*  She has the tricky task of winning a third straight term for his party, like George Bush. (Here, the reporter starts to compare Hillary and Bush campaigns).
Cast himself as the optimist. (Bush did this).
*  More personally, Bush linked his life story to the American story. (Hillary can tell her own history, who by the way is great).
*  Their convention will be a success if it appeals to the heart more than the head.

I don't really know if Hillary would be a great President, but what I know is that Trump would be a disgrace to the humanity. So, I am cheering for her.

See you.

How to Write an Effective Essay

The Baseball Field

Steve was seated on the balcony looking the falling rain. Suddenly, Sara came from the kitchen. She was scared, Bob their son, was gone. Bob was playing in the backyard when a man wearing a baseball uniform took him. Sara saw they through the kitchen window, but when she opened the door to check, they were not there anymore. She was frightened.

Standing up fast, Steve ran into the house and searched for his gun, he needed to do something. He asked Sara to call 911 and to talk with the neighbors. Maybe, they would know something about Bob and the mysterious man.

Ran down the street, Steve arrived at the local baseball field. Surprisingly, Bob and the man were there, playing baseballs like a grandfather and a grandson used to do. Lowering his gun, Steve realized that in fact the man was his father, who died ten years ago. He heard his father saying "I always wished to know him. Bob is a great boy. Now I can go peacefully".

Someone coming from the street called Steve and he turned to see who it was. It was John, his neighbor. When Steve turned back, the man was gone. Bob was there, alone.

Bob and Steve went home and all the neighbors were there, waiting for them. Steve took Sara's hand, turned his back on them and walked slowly into the house.

The End.

FCE Essay #1

This essay is part of my preparation to attend to the FCE Cambridge.

Around the world, people are living and staying healthy for longer and longer. What changes does this bring to today’s society? Are these changes good or bad?

-    Need for more jobs opportunities;
-    Society can enjoy the knowledge of these older and wiser people;
-    It’s a cheap source of labour.

These changes are good, of course.

Nowadays, we can see more people living longer and longer as a result of their life quality improvement. They eat better and healthier, do exercises regularly, and keep their minds busy. But, are these changes good or bad for society?

There are those who say no, this is not good for the society because if this person wants to keep working, he or she may take a position which was meant for a young person. A young person who never worked. In other words, we have to create more positions in the labor market to support all these people.

On the other hand, there are those who think differently, saying that the society has a lot of things to learn with these older and wiser people. As it is widely known, they are a cheap source of labour, so why not have them working in schools, libraries, and so on? Definitely, it is something to discuss.

To sum up, I believe in the benefits of this changes to society. The main point is to find the right place and purpose for everyone. All human beings have something good to delivery to society, no matter how old they are regardless of their age. We, as a society have to find a way to live in balance among us.

F1 - Why ?

Why am I keep watching F1 races?

Alonso is not wining races anymore and there is no chance that he will start to win races soon. Mclaren is not capable to deliver a champ car to him. His third championship is far from happen in 2016.

Another thing that disturbs me is Galvao Bueno narration. I can't stand him anymore. He is boring and does a lot of unfounded comments about the race and the drivers. It seems that he stopped in time, he forgot to improve his knowledge. The word that best describes him, in my opinion, is snobbish. He should go home!

On the other hand, I'm passionate by races. I could watch any kind of races at any time, even the replays. Races are something which I grow up with. It's been part of my life since my childhood. I remember when my dad and I used to watch races on Sundays. He also used to make some barbecues while the race went on. It was good times.

Finally, I know that against all the odds I can't stop to watch F1 races. I will keep cheering for Alonso and praying to see him world champion again. Maybe with the changes proposed by FIA to 2017 the championship will be better, with more emotion, and I will be there again, watching races.

In a Dark Time - Poem by Theodore Roethke

In a Dark Time

BY THEODORE ROETHKE
In a dark time, the eye begins to see,
I meet my shadow in the deepening shade;
I hear my echo in the echoing wood—
A lord of nature weeping to a tree.
I live between the heron and the wren,
Beasts of the hill and serpents of the den.

What’s madness but nobility of soul
At odds with circumstance? The day’s on fire!
I know the purity of pure despair,
My shadow pinned against a sweating wall.
That place among the rocks—is it a cave,
Or winding path? The edge is what I have.

A steady storm of correspondences!
A night flowing with birds, a ragged moon,
And in broad day the midnight come again!
A man goes far to find out what he is—
Death of the self in a long, tearless night,
All natural shapes blazing unnatural light.

Dark, dark my light, and darker my desire.
My soul, like some heat-maddened summer fly,
Keeps buzzing at the sill. Which I is I?
A fallen man, I climb out of my fear.
The mind enters itself, and God the mind,
And one is One, free in the tearing wind.
